THE SECOND DUTSE EMIR

Just a little over a decade after the first elevation of Dutse district to an emirate,
The Federal  Military Government under [Ibrahim Babangida] created the Jigawa State on August 27, 1991 and Dutse became the  Capital city of the new  State. This development gave birth to yet another Dutse Emirate on 13th November 1991, comprising  the local government areas of Dutse, Kiyawa, Birnin Kudu, Gwaram, and Jahun. The creation of Dutse emirate was followed with the upgrading of its serving district head [Muhammad Sanusi ibn Bello] to the first class Emir of Dutse.
A man of strong will and character, Muhammad Sanusi {c. 1914-1995}belonged to a rare group of traditional elites who  experienced the challenges of serving the institution in virtually all its most sensitive and hierarchical position. An offspring of Sarkin Dutse Musa (c.1819-1840), first joined the service of the institution as the Village head of Galamawa, in 1937 then transferred to Yargaba and  to Gurduba villages in 1943 and 1953 respectively.
On November 1, 1981 however he was compulsorily retired from the service he so dearly loved due to political differences between him and the Local Government officials. It was out of the retirement that  he was recalled on October 31 1983 by the Emir of Kano [Alhaji Ado Bayero] and appointed the  District head of Dutse. He held the position  until his upgrading to the status of First Class Emir on November 13, 1991 sequel to the creation of second Dutse Emirate.

On 29th November 1995, Muhammad Sanusi died after a brief illness in his Garu Palace and was buried at his private residence at Shuwari village. The Dutse king makers  selected out of numerous contenders to succeed  him  his son Nuhu Sanusi [the Senior Councilor]  on December 10 1995. He was installed by the military Governor [Col. Ibrahim Aliyu] on January 13 1996, amid a colorful ceremony that brought people from many countries to witness the occasion.
